The Central Equatoria State Government has launched a crackdown on illegal tax collectors operating in Juba City, directing security organs to identify and take action against individuals involved in unauthorized revenue collection.
The directive was issued during the 24th meeting of the Central Equatoria State Security Committee for 2026, chaired by Deputy Governor Paulino Lokukudu Obede on behalf of Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony.
According to the Governor’s Press Unit, the meeting reviewed reports from state security organs on the overall security situation, the state’s economic position and emerging issues affecting citizens’ wellbeing.
The Deputy Governor raised concerns over alleged malpractices by self-deployed revenue collectors, who are reportedly collecting taxes and other revenues without proper authorization.
“He directed security organs to immediately identify those involved in unauthorized revenue collection and related activities and take prompt action in accordance with the law,” the statement from the Governor’s Press Unit said.
The directive comes amid growing concerns over revenue collection and tax administration in Juba, where businesses and residents have raised concerns about multiple and unauthorized forms of taxation.
In June, the Central Equatoria State Government sought legal intervention over challenges surrounding revenue collection and taxation, including concerns over the administration of Personal Income Tax.
Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony had expressed concern over the role of the National Revenue Authority, particularly in Juba, saying existing tax arrangements were placing an increasing burden on business operations in the capital.
He called for solutions to improve revenue administration while creating an environment that supports businesses and economic activity.
Beyond revenue collection, the Security Committee also discussed security and administrative concerns in Kajo-Keji County, particularly the need to strengthen relations among neighbouring communities.
The Committee resolved to establish a committee to engage communities, promote dialogue and address concerns peacefully at the grassroots level.
The meeting also examined reports of illegal courts operating in parts of Central Equatoria State, noting that their activities had created administrative and legal overlaps.
The Attorney General was tasked with examining the matter and proposing appropriate legal measures to ensure a lawful resolution.
Deputy Governor Obede stressed the importance of collaborative leadership and urged state institutions and security organs to operate within the law to maintain peace, security and public order across Central Equatoria State.
