Juba County Commissioner Samuel Emiliano Wani has ordered the suspension of all illegal, unregistered and unauthorised Boda Boda associations operating within the county.
The directive requires associations that have not completed the necessary registration and approval procedures to stop operating until they comply with the requirements set by the authorities.
Commissioner Wani said the move is aimed at bringing the Boda Boda sector under proper regulation and improving accountability among associations operating in Juba.
The county administration has not indicated how many associations are affected by the order, but the directive applies to groups operating without valid registration or authorisation.
Boda Boda motorcycles have become an important means of transport for residents of Juba, providing an affordable way for people to move around the city, particularly in areas where public transport services are limited.
However, the rapid growth of the sector has also created challenges for authorities seeking to regulate motorcycle operators and the associations representing them.
The suspension is expected to give the county administration an opportunity to identify associations that are operating legally and those that have failed to meet registration requirements.
Authorities are also expected to monitor compliance and take action against associations that continue operating despite the suspension.
The county administration has not yet provided details on whether the affected associations will be given a specific period to regularise their operations or what penalties could follow if they ignore the directive.
The order comes as local authorities continue efforts to strengthen oversight of commercial motorcycle operations in Juba.
For Boda Boda associations, registration is important because it provides authorities with a way to identify organised groups, establish accountability and communicate regulatory requirements to operators.
The suspension could therefore affect not only the associations themselves but also the riders operating under their structures.
Residents who rely heavily on Boda Boda services may also feel the impact if the enforcement leads to a significant reduction in the number of motorcycles operating across the city.
The county administration is expected to provide further guidance on the implementation of the order, including how associations can meet the requirements and resume operations legally.
Until then, unregistered and unauthorised Boda Boda associations have been directed to suspend their activities within Juba County.
