Vendors and traders in Juba City have decried poor waste collection and management by city council and urged the council to improve.
In an interview, some of the traders expressed that the Juba City Council and especially those tasks with waste management to take their time to collect the garbage.
Keji Road, a vendor along Gudele road expressed that despites several taxes collected by the City Council garbage collection remain a challenge.
She added that the City Council garbage collection remain selective in areas and at time delay in collection making it to accumulate in some areas of the market.
“We are paying taxes, but some time the trucks that collect garbage delay or collect and leave some areas making garbage to accumulate in some areas” she said.
“We need the Juba City Council and those tasked with collection of garbage to improve” she added.
She urged the National government to monitor the operation of the Juba City council in order to improve efficiency in Work.
“Delay in collection of waste does not only affect the traders but everyone in Juba City, some time dogs, cats that died on streets can get rotten in some areas and it take length time for the council to collect, it smells and become a public disaster, iurge National government to monitor and support the Juba City Council” she appealed.
Garang Bardon, a restaurant owner in Custom market reiterated the call on Juba City Council to employ more trucks to collect garbage around Juba City.
He decried that many restaurants face the challenge of delayed in garbage collection
Bardon claimed that due to delay in garbage collection from the Juba City Council, some of the restaurant’s resort to collecting on their own money despites paying taxes.
He urged the Juba City Council to ensure frequent garbage collection to reduce accumulation of the garbage in the market.
Meanwhile Members from Chamber of Commerce of Juba City acknowledged the challenges facing the vendors and traders.
During a productive meeting with Central Equatoria State (C.E.S) Minister of Housing Land and Public Utilities, Hon. David Morbe Aquilino, the Juba City Council officialsrevealed several challenges facing the vendors.
The challenges including Challenges of Lack of proper trading Space particular for Vegetable Sellers.
Other Critical challenges include absence sanitation facilities, lack of packing Area and poor waste management in the markets.
Stephen Wani chair person of Chamber of Commerce in Juba City, called upon shop owners in Jebel market to come for registration with their documents at chamber of commerce office Jebel market as ease way to address some of the challenges.
David morbe Aquilino re-affirmed his commitment to work hand in hand with Juba City Council to improve market infrastructure and management to enhance hygiene safety.
