The National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC) has launched a nation-wide Civic Education and public consultation Campaign on constitutional matters.

This event mark one of the milestones by the commission that kickstart serious engagement with South Sudan citizens both within and out Side the Country.

Speaking during the launching on Thursday, Dr. Riang Yer Zour, Chairperson of National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC) appreciated the partners for supporting the body to reach the launching of the event.

He added the peoples driven Constitution rely on getting their views on the constitution making processes.

The Chairperson expressed that despite several challenges, the commission remain committed to ensure that the country has permanent constitution.

“All Procedures of the constitution making process present to us shows how far we have come in our efforts to make a permanent constitution for this country” Yer said.

“Today launch mark the beginning of the conduct of the substantive activities of the constitution making processes” he added

He called on the Public to cooperate and be open in the process so that to have people driven constitution.

Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro Minister of Cabinet Affairs reiterated government commitment in the peace implementation including the constitution making processes.

He appreciated the Chairperson of National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC) for his commitment in ensuring that the country achieve the permanent constitution.

Dr. Elia expressed that President Salva Kiir and the government remain committed to implement peace in letters and spirit.

Nicholas Haysom, special representative of the UN secretary-general and Head of UNMISS, appealed to South Sudanese leaders embrace dialogue in order to create conducive space for consultation.

On his part, Dr. Wek Mamer Kuol Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs expressed that the process will allow the citizens to add their views on how the constitution look like.

He expressed that the success of the process needs efforts from all the government, partners and the public.

“The success of these programs(consultation) defense on collective efforts of all stakeholders’ government institution, civil society, academia, the media and our development partners.

“I urge every South Sudanese to embrace this process constructive and exercise their constitutional right” he appealed.
