Warrap State has received tractors from the National government and vowed to intensify farming to boost food production.
In April the National Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security received 104 tractors reportedly procured by the Ministry of Finance and Planning to be distributor to all the states.
The tractors were meant to help farmers and cooperatives members to enhance food production across the country.
While receiving three tractors as share of Warrap state, Deng Madut Majok, the State Minister of Agriculture vowed to ensure that the tractors are put to use to boost food production.
“We thank the National government for the three tractors and we urge them to provide more; the tractors will help the farmers to boost food production” he said
“We need government to Finance Agriculture in all the states so that to ensure food security” he added
The tractors are part of a larger consignment of 104 tractors recently procured by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Production under the leadership of Minister Hussein Abdelbagi.
He appreciated the National government for the provision of the tractors and urged them to finance Agriculture.
Despite being limited in numbers the Minister expressed that the few tractors will be given to the farmers as the state hope for more.
Minister Madut expressed gratitude to the national government for its continued support, noting that the arrival of the tractors comes at a crucial time when farmers are preparing their fields for cultivation.
Farmers across the country have consistently raised concerns about conflicts, insufficient government support, particularly in pest control, access to fuel, and lack of a stable market for their produce.
Earlier this month, the Economic Cluster approved SSP 62 billion to support farming activities ahead of the rainy season.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Lily Albino Akol, directed all state governors and chief administrators to allocate 250,000 hectares of land each for agricultural use.
Recently South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit directed the newly appointed governor of restive Warrap State, Amb. Bol Wek Agoth, to end communal violence and restore peace in the state.
