Jonglei State Governor Riek Gai has reassured supporters of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) of the party’s commitment to strengthening its structures, uniting its members, and restoring hope to the people of the state.

Governor Riek made the remarks on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of Samuel Ateny Pech as the SPLM County Chairperson, held at the party’s State Secretariat in Bor. The event also welcomed other newly appointed officials.

Addressing party members and stakeholders who traveled from across the country to witness the occasion, Governor Riek described the gathering as a defining moment for the SPLM in Jonglei.

“Even though this is primarily a swearing-in ceremony, it is gratifying to see party leaders and stakeholders from various places filling this event to support the newly sworn-in Chairperson, Samuel Ateny. As we strategize, our goal is not only to stabilize the party but also to continue providing hope to the people of Jonglei,” Riekstated.

He further reflected on Jonglei’s historical role in the SPLM, recalling its significance during the liberation struggle.

He proudly referred to Jonglei as the “Home of the SPLM,” saying the state had reclaimed its place after years of opposition dominance.

In his remarks, the newly sworn-in Chairperson, Samuel Ateny Pech, commended party members for their continued loyalty and support.

He reaffirmed his commitment to work with all party organs to strengthen unity and deliver better governance.

“Despite minor hiccups, we are united with all organs and leaders of the party. We will continue to work together to provide the people of Jonglei with opportunities for good governance,” Ateny said
Acting SPLM Secretary, David Ayang, also addressed the gathering, reiterating the leadership’s determination to reform and reposition the party to maintain its role as the leading political force in Jonglei.

The event was attended by key dignitaries, including members of the SPLM Caucus, the State Liberation Council, Youth League, Women’s League, Red Army, Veteran Affairs, and Lawyers’ Forum, among others.

Friday’s gathering underscored the SPLM’s renewed focus on unity, stability, and effective governance as it seeks to consolidate its position as the party of choice for the people of Jonglei State.
