The Governor of Jonglei State, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the health sector through consistent supervision, institutional reforms, and enhanced service delivery.

In an official inspection tour of Bor State Hospital on Tuesday, Governor Riek said his government is determined to ensure no stone is left unturned in improving healthcare standards across the state.

The visit marks the beginning of a series of routine inspections and performance assessments aimed at ensuring accountability and quality medical care in public health institutions.

“I am deeply impressed by the dedication and professionalism of our medical teams,” Governor Riek said during the tour.

“I want to extend my appreciation to all our health workers and development partners for their continued investment in Jonglei’s healthcare system.” He added.

The governor announced the forthcoming launch of the Health System Transformation Project, a World Bank–funded initiative implemented through UNICEF.

The project will focus on strengthening service delivery and expanding specialist care within the state.

“As part of this initiative, five medical specialists will be deployed to Bor State Hospital to enhance service delivery,” Dr. Riek revealed. “With this investment, we anticipate a significant reduction in referrals to Juba. In fact, Bor Hospital is poised to start receiving patients from neighbouring regions such as Lakes State and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.” He added.

Dr. Reath Kong, Director General of the State Ministry of Health, acknowledged ongoing service delivery challenges but remained hopeful.

“We still face constraints in the laboratory and pharmacy departments, mainly due to limited supplies,” he noted.

“However, with continued government and partner support, we are confident these gaps will be addressed.” Kong added.

Frontline health workers also expressed renewed hope following the governor’s visit. AkoutBulabek Deng, a health worker with Tearfund, said the visit was a morale boost for the hospital staff.

“We are grateful to Dr. Riek Gai Kok for taking the time to witness firsthand the realities of our work, This visit gives us confidence that our efforts are being recognized and supported.” Said Akuot
