The Governor of Jonglei State Dr. Riek Gai Kok on Friday urged newly appointed government officials to view their roles as a solemn responsibility to serve the people with integrity and accountability, rather than as a privilege.

The call came during the swearing-in ceremony at the Jonglei State Secretariat in Bor Town, following President Salva Kiir’s recent reshuffle that saw several state ministers and the Bor County Commissioner relieved and appointed.

“This event is not just a routine government function; it is a testament to our steadfast commitment to good governance, efficiency, and the collective aspiration of our people to see a government that truly serves their interests,” Governor Gai said.

He reminded the officials that they now represent the face of the state government and must embody transparency, responsiveness, and innovation.

“As public servants, you are the face of this government, and the citizens of Jonglei State look up to you to not only uphold the principles of accountability but also to embody the spirit of innovation and responsiveness,” he added.

Acknowledging the challenges facing the state, Governor Gai expressed confidence that collective effort and dedication would yield meaningful progress.

“The task before us is enormous, but with collective dedication, we can overcome challenges and bring about the transformation our people desire,” he stressed.

He further urged the appointees to familiarize themselves with the state’s development agenda and align their work with its priorities.

“I urge you all to study our developmental blueprint and align your efforts with the goals and priorities we have set. Beyond executing existing policies, I encourage you to introduce innovative ideas that will accelerate the progress of our dear state,” he said.

The swearing-in marked the official entry of the new appointees into the Jonglei State government, with the governor tasking them to deliver tangible results to meet public expectations.
