The newly appointed Governor of Jonglei state Dr. Riek Gai Kok has initiated grassroots peace model that tasked traditional chiefs to ensure community co-cohesion.

While conflict and communal violence persist in the Upper Nile region in general and some part of Jonglei, the governor met chiefs from different areas with hope to get solution to the raging conflicts.

While meeting Lou Nuer delegation headed by the spiritual leader on Friday, Governor Gai urged the delegation to strengthen unity among the counties.

He advised them to spearhead youth mobilization toward peace.

The governor expressed that the traditional leaders and the local chiefs have vital role in ensuring peace and stability in the state.

He appreciated them for their continuous efforts in peace and urged them to double efforts to ensure that peace prevail at grassroots.

The government appealed to the traditional leaders to ensure that youth are advised to cease use of violence in cases where there is misunderstanding.

On separate statement, Governor Gai while meeting Twic East tradition Chiefs on Friday, tasked them to ensure Peaceful Co-existence among the communities.

He called on traditional rulers of Twic East to foster healthier communal relationship, peaceful co-existence and good neighborliness among each other

“We want the cooperation of our traditional authorities to end the avoidable records of communal clashes and other disputes in the bud.” Gai saids 

He vowed to ensure that state government has deliver necessary services to the people during his tenure.
