Jonglei state leadership under Dr. Riek Gai Kok has reiterated his commitment to collaborating with the State Ministry of General Education and Instruction to ensure that children in Jonglei have the opportunity to attend school.

Governor Riek announced that the state leadership will work towards increasing access to education across the state.

He said that the ultimate goal is to eradicate illiteracy and improve access to higher education in the state.

‘’We are going to increase access to primary education and the details of the plan will be shared with the state Education Ministry. We are going to increase admissions to universities. Anyone who sits for South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Educationshould go to the university and no boy or girl will stay without going to the university after the struggle by the parents to pay for senior four. It is a good investment to encourage students to join university after finishing senior four. We are going to work to realize this goal,’’ said Governor Gai.

He made these remarks during his briefing of the SPLM members, organized by the State SPLM Secretariat, on Tuesday.

In his speech, Governor Gai also called for unity among the various tribes in Jonglei and with the neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

‘’The coming of the Chief Administrator of Greater Pibor Administrative Area to the state on Thursday isa sign of peace and we want to show the world and the President of the Republic of South Sudan that Murle and people of Jonglei are one. We live together, Murle, Greater Lou Nuer, Gewaar, Dinka in Pigi, Dinka Bor, and Anyuak are one people. We must live as one people,’’ Governor Gai explained.

‘’Our first priority is security and if it is achieved, there will be peace because peace comes after security and after we can cultivate. We need peace with Murle and I urge the chiefs and the youth towork on that. I will also be going to conflicting places to resolve issues and have peace, ’’ He added.

Furthermore, he pledged to support women within the state, working to create more opportunities for them.
