The Ministry of Transport has signed a landmark agreement with Djibouti to construct a series of river and dry ports across South Sudan.

The deal is expected to significantly boost trade and logistics within the country and the wider region.

The agreement, announced by the Ministry of Transport, includes plans to build ports in key strategic locations including: Yei, Renk, Nasir, Adok, Bor, Juba, and Shambe.

Speaking on Monday after the signing ceremony, Minister of Transport Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin described the agreement as a “significant milestone” in strengthening cooperation with Djibouti.

He stated that the projects, once implemented, would “boost trade, advance logistics, and foster economic growth with the Great Lakes region.”

Dr. Akol further noted that the new ports will facilitate the free movement of people, goods, and services, solidifying South Sudan’s position as a vital logistics hub in the region.

Meanwhile the ministry of information in its statement to the media noted that the deal marks a major step forward in the country’s efforts to develop its infrastructure and enhance its economic connectivity.
