A new multi-purpose farmers’ center aimed at strengthening food security and agricultural productivity was officially inaugurated in Gimunu Boma, Yei River County ofCentral Equatoria State.

Constructed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with funding from the World Bank, the facility is a key component of the Resilience and Agriculture Livelihoods Project (RALP-AF).

During the handover ceremony, the Central Equatoria State Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment, Lily Kapuki, underscored the importance of community ownership.

She stated that the center is designed to empower local farmers to manage their own development, promoting “local economic growth, improved agricultural practices, and self-reliance.”

Mr. Felix Dzurumi, the Deputy Country Director for FAO, echoed this sentiment, urging the community to take control of the center to foster self-reliance and enhance their ability to manage local resources.

For his part, Emmanuel Taban Seme, the Commissioner of Yei River County, expressed his appreciation for the support from FAO.

He highlighted that the center will provide farmers with essential training, technology, and resources, which will help promote sustainable practices, improve market access, and enhance financial literacy throughout the county.

The new center is expected to strengthen the capacity of farmers and their organizations, ultimately improving household food production and building the community’s ability to withstand shocks and disasters.
