President Kiir praises army for upholding National security

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit today received a comprehensive security briefing from the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Gen. Chol Thon Balok, at the State House, J1, Juba.

The report, which focused on the general security situation within the country and along its borders, was delivered on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

According to the statement from the office of the president, Gen. Thon assured President Kiir that the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) remains steadfast in its constitutional mandate to protect the nation’s territorial integrity, its citizens, and their property.

Despite recent isolated incidents in some parts of the country, the Minister reported that the overall security situation remains stable.

He underscored the army’s high level of preparedness and its continued commitment to maintaining peace and stability.

In response, President Kiir commended the leadership and personnel of the SSPDF for their diligent efforts in upholding law and order across the nation.

The Head of State praised the military for its unwavering dedication and discipline, and he reaffirmed the government’s full support for the army’s crucial mission.

Minister Thon’s briefing to the president comes after the SSPDF chief of defense force, Gen. Dau Aturjong lead a high-level army delegation to meet their Ugandan counterparts the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces on modalities of resolving the recent cross-border clashes in Kajo-Keji County of Central Equatoria State.
