President Kiir urges South Sudanese to put aside hate in honor of Martyrs

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has passionately called on the nation’s leaders and citizens to transcend personal and political differences, uniting in a shared commitment to honor the sacrifices of the country’s martyrs.

The head of state expressed that for the country to move forward in Peace, to please those who sacrificed their lives, there is need to cease hatred and all sort of divisions.

During his national address on Martyrs’ Day, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, President Salva Kiir fervently urged South Sudanese citizens to foster unity and reject all forms of division, emphasizing a collective dedication to honoring the nation’s martyrs.

He appealed to the leaders to work in unity for the welfare of South Sudanese.

“Our mandate is to work tirelessly for the welfare of all citizens, putting aside personal and political differences for the greater good of our country” the President appealed.

The head of state directed those in government offices to work with high standard of integrity as it was the wish of the martyrs whose efforts resulted to the liberation of South Sudan.

“My fellow comrades, let us serve with integrity and humility” Kiir said.

As a liberator, the head of state urged the Citizen and the leaders to protect the country in order to reach its height of progress.

He added that in order to ensure that that martyrs are well honored, there is a need to for all the Citizens to commit themselves to the country’s progress.

“This new struggle calls for dedication, good governance and collective efforts on this day of remembrance” Kiir said

The President’s call for the need to embrace peace and Unity will focuses on the co-valves of justice and prosperity.

“To all south Sudanese, I urge you to embrace unity and object division for the freedom you will enjoy is a precious gift and through great sacrifices, use it wisely to build a peaceful and prosperous nation” he reiterated.

President Kiir urged the citizens to pay tribute to the founding leader Dr. John Garang De Mabior and to all the courageous civilian individuals who stood firm through years of struggles until the independence was achieved.

“May the souls of our martyrs’ rest in eternal peace, may their sacrifice continue to inspire us all. May God bless the republic of South Sudan” Kiir stated.
Martyrs’ Day in South Sudan is observed on July 30.

It is a public holiday and a Remembrance Day that commemorates the death anniversary of John Garang de Mabior, who is widely considered the most influential person in the history of South Sudan.
