Transport minister Dr. Lam Akol briefs Vice President and Chairperson for Infrastructure Cluster on River and dry ports development projects.

The Minister for Transport Hon. Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has today briefed H.E Gen. Taban Deng Gai upon his return from Djibouti where he signed a memorandum of Agreement with Duty Free Zone in Djibouti on River and Dry ports.

The minister stated that the agreement was reached as a joint venture between South Sudan and Djibouti to construct Shambe, Malakal, Adok, Renk and Melut river ports as well as Basi and Gegar dry ports.

According to the minister, the agreement paves way for South Sudan to boost its exports and imports routes through Djibouti and to facilitate river transport.

The two countries will establish a joint technical committee to coordinate effective implementation of these projects.

The Vice President applauded the minister’s efforts and pledged his full support and interagency coordination with relevant institutions such as ministry of trade, Telecommunications as well as ministry of petroleum.
