United Kingdom Ambassador visits Rumbek to evaluate peace building progress in the region

The United Kingdom delegations led by Ambassador visited Rumbek yesterday to evaluate the impact of the Peace building and resilience project funded by UK in Lakes State.

The diplomats have been supporting health and peace initiatives in Lakes State.

The UK Ambassador David Ashley said the delegations were appreciative of the progress from the government of Lakes State in regard to the initiatives.

” It is my pleasure to be here in Rumbek, clearly we want to see a peaceful and thriving South Sudan and traveling to Lakes State is a major part of that.” Said Ashley

The minister of cabinet affairs Stephen Mathiang Deng said the state is deeply honored for the support to make the region a better place.

“We are happy to acknowledge your support towards the peace in Lakes State between our communities and your support is highlyappreciated. You are highly welcomed to Lakes State”. Said Mathiang

The Unitedkingdom has been one of the strongest supporters in South Sudansince before independence and we particularly support South Sudan inareas of peace and in development including education, health and humanitarian affairs.

Area co-ordinator for peace Canal in Lakes State Mary Arun Gol said they have been supporting peace building opportunities fund POF through Peace Canal for the last 5-6 years since 2020 .

” For the last 3 years, the delegations came and in 2023 to 2025 . Theyhad never visited again and this is one of the major purpose of theircoming to evaluate the activities and to see the achievement of whathave been achieved so far and also the challenges on what the greaterAgar community are facing, what the gaps and what are the wayforward”. She said.
