President Salva Kiir’s home State of Warrap has been engulfed in several inter-communal conflict despites changes in governorship position.
The air bombardment has left one person dead, others injured with several houses burnt down in Awutwut Payam in Gogrial East County of Warrap State.
Addressing media on Thursday, the Commissioner of Gogrial East County Marko Garang Anyaar expressed that Awutwut area witnessed first time incident of destruction from unknow gunship.
The commissioner said that the several bombs were dropped on the civilian unexpected leaving by the unknown gunships leaving a person killed with others injured.
He added that several houses were set on fire leaving the residents in suffering and dire need of humanitarian assistance.
“I did not expect that, It was a terrible situation many houses are burnt down to ashes by the bombs threw by the gunship, one person died, several are injured I can not mention the name” he said
The commissioner said that till now the state authorities could not identify who is behind bombardment including the reasons for bombardment.
“I don’t know up to know who are behind this bombardment on the civilian area and I don’t know where this helicopter gunship came from.” he said
He said that with efforts from the national the government would be able to establish who is behind as well as the reasons for Bombardment.
The commissioner claimed that the bombed area was peaceful and could not amount to punishment in any way as it has happened.
He expressed that beside the fact that the Citizens are traumatized by the bombardment life was lost with houses destroyed.
Efforts to reach out to Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang the Spokesperson of the South Sudan Peoples Defense Forces (SSPDF) to comment on the incident were not successful.
Recently serious communal conflict erupted in Gogrial and left many people dead.
Mamer Bath, Warrap State Information Minister, said the fighting, which erupted between 28 and 29 May 2025 in Tonj East County, resulted in several houses being burnt to ashes, property looted, and 30,000 families displaced.
“The latest clashes in Tonj East County, which have left 62 dead, among them 20 women, and 36 others wounded, as well as the displacement of over 30,000 households to WunyiikAkok Payam, Pabuong, and Alatiep Wunlit Payam,” Bath said in a statement.
The motives behind the deadly violence remain unknown.
Bath said the state government learned with dismay of the unfortunate violent clashes between the Luacjang and Jalwau communities of Tonj East County.
