‎South Sudan’s Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel has embarked on a visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aimed at strengthening economic relationships and attracting foreign investments.
‎
‎As the head of South Sudan’s economic cluster, Mel is accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials and is set to convey a message from President Salva Kiir to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
‎
‎Mel’s press secretary, Oyiti Ajawin, stated that the primary goal of the visit is to enhance cooperation between the two nations and to stimulate investment opportunities in South Sudan.

In addition, Mel is expected to engage with Emirati business leaders to explore potential economic collaborations, Ajawin noted.
‎
‎This trip is part of ongoing diplomatic efforts between Juba and Abu Dhabi, following President Kiir’s 10 day visit to the UAE last month.
‎
‎South Sudan and the UAE share diplomatic and trade relations, with the UAE providing humanitarian assistance to the nation, which has been affected by ongoing conflict.
‎
‎The timing of Vice President Mel’s visit is critical, as South Sudan grapples with significant cash shortages and increasing pressure on President Kiir to restart halted negotiations with First Vice President Riek Machar, who has been under house arrest since March.
