Warrap state records 73 Cholera cases, six fatalities

Health officials in Warrap State revealed that the department recorded 73 cholera cases being treated with six deaths cases in areas of Akon and Kuajok.

Speaking to the media over the weekend, John Akol Akol a Surveillance Officer at state Ministry of Health said that case of cholera continues to surge due to poor sanitation.

Akol said since July they have recorded seventy-three cases both in Kuajok Town and Akon payam of Gogrial West County.

“In July we recorded 73 cases in Kuajok town and Akon payam and 14 patients are still being admitted awaiting monitoring and 6 died before they reached the health facilities and the rest got discharged,” Akol said.

The Health Officer appealed for need for communities to maintain proper Hygiene.

“I need all the residents and members of public in Warrap to keep their homes clean, the poor hygiene attract cholera and other diseases” he said

He vowed that the health officials continue to try their best to provide necessary assistant to areas affected by cholera.

“We are committed as health workers and officers to help our people survive cholera but we need families to follow measures of preventing cholera” he said

Akol urged the humanitarian partners to continue with their efforts in helping areas affected by cholera and Warrap in particular.

He appealed to the elites to continue with awareness creation in villages in order to protect people from cholera and its impact.
