The Acting Governor of Western Equatoria State, Justin Joseph Marona, has called on the organized forces in Yambio to remain alert, disciplined, and united in protecting the state’s borders and civilians from any internal or external threats, describing their unwavering service amid hardships as “the highest form of patriotism.”
During a day-long tour that covered seven army deployment centers across Yambio, Marona extended words of encouragement and appreciation to soldiers for their commitment to safeguarding peace despite economic hardships and logistical shortages.
“I came here today not just as your acting governor, but as a son of this land who values your sacrifice, you serve this nation with courage and loyalty, even when you go for months without pay. That is what we call true patriotism standing firm for the soil and its people despite all odds,” said Marona.
He urged the soldiers to stay vigilant and professional in their duties, particularly during a time when Western Equatoria continues to face security challenges in some areas.
“Remain steadfast in protecting civilians and their property, let no act of violence divide us. Peace and unity must begin with the uniformed men and women who protect this nation,” he added.
At the 16th Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Yambio, Brigadier General AkechLang welcomed the acting governor’s visit, calling it “a strong symbol of cooperation” between the civil and military leadership.
“The visit of His Excellency shows that our government stands with the army at a time when our people are crying for peace and stability,” Brigadier Akech said. “We promise to work hand in hand with the state authorities to ensure peace returns to every corner of Western Equatoria State.”
Observers say Marona’s tour comes at a time when community confidence in the state’s security has been shaken by recurring incidents of local insecurity and inter-communal tensions. His visit is seen as a morale booster for the troops and a reassurance to civilians that the government is actively engaging with security organs to maintain stability.
“This kind of leadership outreach is needed,” said a local resident in Yambio town. “It shows that the governor cares about the soldiers and the peace of the people.”
Marona concluded his tour by reaffirming the state government’s commitment to continue engaging all organized forces and community leaders to sustain peace and promote development across Western Equatoria State.
“We can only build schools, hospitals, and roads when there is peace. That peace begins with our soldiers disciplined, patriotic, and united under one flag,” Marona emphasized.
