The government of Western Equatoria State has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the media as a key partner in promoting good governance, describing it as the “fourth organ of government” essential for transparency and accountability.

Addressing staff of Yambio FM in his office on Tuesday morning, Western Equatoria State GovernorBarrister James AlTaib Berapai emphasized that without the media, government activities would remain invisible and governance would suffer.

“The government is made up of three main organs the Legislature, the Judiciary, and the Executive. But there is a fourth organ which is equally essential: the Media,” AlTaib said.

He added that. “Without the media, government becomes like a crippled person who cannot move to be seen.

Good governance requires transparency and visibility, and the media is the channel through which people can witness and understand what their government is doing.”

However, during the meeting, AlTaib welcomed Yambio FM’s management and assured them of the government’s full support in keeping the station operational.

He directed Ivory Bank to provide the station with 400 liters of diesel, SSP 8,110,000, three motorcycles, a computer, and a printer to strengthen its capacity in delivering information to the public.

Meanwhile, the acting station manager of Yambio FM, Mr. Emmanuel David Samuel, said the visit aimed to congratulate the Governor on his appointment while also briefing him on the station’s achievements and challenges.

“We appreciate the Governor for the support extended to us,” Samuel said. “As a media house, our responsibility remains clear: to report accurately, objectively, and within our limits so that the people of Western Equatoria are informed with balance and truth.”

Observers say the gesture signals a renewed partnership between the government and the media in the state, which many believe is vital in bridging the gap between leadership and citizens.
