In a powerful show of unity and gratitude, the Yambio County Commissioner, Hon. Michael Ismail Medi, on Tuesday convened a landmark meeting with the business community to rally support for peacekeeping soldiers stationed across the county.
The meeting, held at the Yambio County Headquarters, brought together traders, entrepreneurs, and corporate representatives to discuss collective contributions aimed at improving the welfare of soldiers who continue to play a critical role in maintaining peace, order, and economic stability.
Commissioner Medi commended the business community for their continued cooperation with the county administration and underscored the inseparable link between peace and prosperity.
“Our soldiers are the silent guardians of Yambio’s stability. Without their sacrifice, no business would thrive, no family would sleep in peace, it is our duty to stand with them not just in words, but through real support that uplifts their morale,” Medi said.
He revealed that the county administration will continue to engage the private sector and other stakeholders to ensure that the security forces are adequately appreciated and motivated.
The Commissioner’s message was warmly received by members of the business community, who described the initiative as timely and patriotic, especially at a time when Yambio continues to rebuild after years of instability.
Mr. Now Now, representing West Africa Business Group operating in Yambio County, hailed the meeting as a “new dawn of partnership” between the private sector and local government.
“Peace is the foundation of business, we are ready to contribute both financially and materially our shops will be the first to start door-to-door contributions in support of our soldiers,” he said.
The business community further pledged to work hand in hand with the county government to create a safe and conducive environment for trade, emphasizing that economic growth cannot flourish without security.
A coordination committee was formed at the end of the meeting to oversee the collection and delivery of donations to the peacekeeping soldiers operating in Yambio and surrounding areas.
Local residents have lauded the initiative as a symbol of shared responsibility, saying it demonstrates the unity between the government, security organs, and the private sector in securing lasting peace.
“This meeting shows that peace belongs to everyone, when soldiers are supported, our community feels safe and when there’s peace, business follows,” said Mary Namboya, a trader in Yambio Market.
The initiative is expected to inspire similar partnerships across Western Equatoria State, where local governments are working closely with communities and the private sector to sustain peace and promote development.
