Over 3.5 million children to receive pneumonia Vaccine

The Ministry of health has launched Pneumonia vaccine campaign at Yei River County, Central Equatoria state.

World Health Organization (WHO) official in Yei River County of Central Equatoria, Kaden Jackson revealed that the launched pneumonia vaccine was aimed at protecting children from Tuberculosis will target more than 3 million children.

“The vaccine will be rotational and will protect children from more than five diseases in the body and whenever a child is not vaccinated with pneumonia vaccine and even the measles vaccine meaning the child is likely to be affected” He mentioned.

He urged the communities to take up the vaccination campaigns and ensure that all children get the vaccine.

“Some of the people in the community takes it like a simple thing and that’s the reason why you are involved in this meeting, this program targets children from one year above and all these vaccines will be in every hospital” He added.

He reiterated World Health Organization Commitment to protecting Children and the public at large from any emerging disease and health complications.

Sesco Angelo who made remark on behalf of National Ministry of Health reiterated government role in ensuring that the vaccine reaches all corners of South Sudan.

He advised parents that it’s their responsibility to take care of the child health when comes to the time of vaccination and it’s the same as military officers gives protection to the community and we heard about the dangerous diseases known as pneumonia which is a serious killer disease.

The Acting director for county health department Malish Gordon Faustino welcomes the meeting so that all children are vaccinated against pneumonia to boost the health of the children.

He assures all the stakeholders for turning up for the meeting in order to get accurate information to the communities in the county with the target of children because their immune system is very weak.

Meanwhile Isaac Peter Zachayo the inspector of Yei River County local government pointed out that they have heard since a year before concerning the new vaccine that might soon arrive to Yei and now, they have arrived. He adds

“The vaccine is well tested by the ministry of health so that’s why the brought out to Yei” he added.

Kenyi Samuel the state communication officer for central Equatria state states that the vaccine is good to protect children against Pneumonia and every stakeholder should advise all the parents to bring their children for vaccination.

Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs may fill with fluid or pus (purulent material), causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.
The officials announced during an official meeting that brought various stakeholders together on Tuesday.
