The newly appointed Governor of Warrap State, Amb. Bol Wek, has called on the residents to pray for him in order to face and end conflict in the area.

Despite commitment by the officials and communities to end the ongoing intercommunal violence, there has been no peace in the area.

Warrap State, despite being President Salva Kiir’s hometown, continues to face a lot of insecurity cases topped by inter-communal violence.

Recently a conflict within Tonj communities resulted in the death of over 50 people, with many people displaced.

Addressing communities during his visit to schools on Friday, Warrap Governor Amb. Bol Wek called on the residents to pray for him in order to succeed in the peace mission.

“I am on a peace mission. Pray for me to succeed in ending communal conflicts in Warrap.” Wek appealed

He appealed to the communities to cease conflict, adding that the conflict has installed fear in school-going children.

“I am saddened by information that even school-going children, who are our future, are directly affected.” He said.

The government expressed that despite persistence in inter-communal conflict, his administration remains committed to bringing peace to the area.

“Pray for me; my government is committed to bringing peace in the area, and that is the reason President Salva Kiir appointed me,” he added.

He vowed to improve education as he continued to deescalate conflict in the area.

“I want you to prioritize your education, because 20 years from now, this school can produce other national leaders at the calibre of President Kiir,” he said.

He urged the youth to respect the army and surrender their guns as disarmament continues in the area.
